Virtual Assistant Myths
Comin' in HAWT again today with another tell-all (you can find the first juicy tell-all I did awhile back right here). I want to talk about myths today - specifically myths in the virtual assistant industry.
Virtual Assistant Myths
When I first started this business, I had a ton of misconceptions about a ton of different things. What I didn't know - and still don't because I'm always learning - could fill a book. So I thought I'd take a second and break some of this stuff down for you, just in case you felt the same way about some of this stuff.
Let's dive in 👇🏻
Virtual Assistant Myth 1: You have to have virtual assistant experience to sign clients.
Noooooooooooope. You don't need experience as a VA to sign clients. What you do need is a way to translate experience you already have into services your ideal clients need. When I first started, I had customer service and admin experience. So I took those two things and packaged them up into email management work.
Myth 2: Your niche has to be hyper specific.
Nada! My niche when I first started was "product based business owners". Yup, it really is that simple. You can get as specific as you want but if the idea of a choosing a niche stresses you out just go as focused as you feel comfortable.
Myth 3: You have to have it all figured out before you start.
I cannot stress this enough: I have nothing figured out. Except maybe my next meal because food is wonderful. I had a rough plan when I started but you need to realize that things are going to change. You don't need to have everything figured out, a rough draft and the ability to pivot are the key.
Myth 4: It's easy and anyone can do it.
If it were easy any anyone could do it, everyone would be doing it. Is it easy? Nope. Is it worth it? Immeasurably so.
Myth 5: Nobody needs a virtual assistant.
I was FLOORED by the amount of small business owners that needed help when I first started. I signed my first client within three weeks of starting my business (more on that here) and literally said to myself "okay - so this is a thing!"
Let me bottom line it for you dear reader: there's a lot of misconceptions out there about owning a business, and you can choose to give into them or you can choose to prove them all wrong.
